As a conductor Alton has performed with ensembles in Europe, North America and Asia. Ensembles he has led and conducted include: the Oskar Kolberg Philharmonia in Czechia; the Kielce National Philharmonia in Poland; the Taipei Symphony Winds, the Taoyuan Symphonic Winds, the Dong Hwa Symphony Orchestra, the NTNU Senior Women’s Chorus and the Tainan Tech Chamber Ensembles in Taiwan; and the Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra and Superior Wind Symphony in the USA.
As an actor and theatre collaborator Alton’s performances have been seen at The Lab in Taipei, the Fells Point Corner Theatre in Baltimore, and the Vagabond Theatre in Memphis. In partnership with ICRT in Taipei he wrote and directed 1001 Nights: The Radio Play. The broadcast premier starred Chia-Hsuan Lin, Paul Batt, and Ruth Landowne Giordano and was produced by Tim Berge and Ping Yu. As an actor he is represented by Ponny Chen of Talent in Taiwan and by the V&L Agency.
Alton’s photography has been exhibited in Taiwan’s National Palace Museum, National Concert Hall and Taipei Mayor’s Salon. His Taiwan Mussorgsky Project photo series features over 400 Taiwan images shot over two years and displayed in tandem with a live on-stage performance of Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky. The series has been performed in concert with conductor Hsu Ching-Hsin (Apo Hsu) and the NTNU Symphony Orchestra and in recital with pianist Chang Shao-Hsun.
Winner of a Baltimore Writers Alliance award for fiction, Alton has published stories and essays as e-books through Dimetrodon Media; his scholarly writing is available through UMI. As a mentor Alton has worked with young artists and scholars at the National Dong Hwa University in Hualien, the National Ilan University in Yilan, the National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, Fu Jen University in New Taipei, the Tainan University of Technology in southern Taiwan, and the Michigan Technological University in the USA. Alton holds degrees from the Florida State University, the University of Memphis, and the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University.
